PayPal sufers online break-down

PayPal suffered an outage in service late
Thursday, the online payment service reported.
PayPal suffered a breakdown late Thursday
when the power went out at one of its data
centers, company officials said.
PayPal, whose customers use it to make online
payments on third party sites, reported that
customers were having problems finishing their
transactions. The extent of the disruption for the
company’s 173 million users worldwide wasn’t
immediately clear, but PayPal began working
again early Friday.
"Following a temporary service interruption
customers can once again pay with PayPal," a
statement from the company said. "This
interruption was caused by a data center power
outage, which we have addressed. We
apologize for any inconvenience this may have
caused."
Online marketplace Etsy had alerted its
customers to problems with PayPal
transactions Thursday.
“Our engineers have identified the issue is on
PayPal’s side,” Etsy officials said in a
statement . “We’re temporarily disabling use of
PayPal via our site until the issue is resolved.”
PayPal’s accounts have grown by 4 million and
sales volume on the service has jumped 20
percent to $69.7 billion over last year, according
to a quarterly report cited by Bloomberg
Business . The company’s stock lost value
Thursday on news that the fees collected by
PayPal on each sale fell in the third quarter, its
first quarter after the company’s spin-off from
eBay.
